On Our Way To Paradise!

It’s LEAVING TIME!!  Departure date has finally arrived and we are raring to go!!  Wisely (we think… we’ll reevaluate tomorrow), we booked an overnight flight and will arrive in our warm and tropical paradise at 8:30 in the morning. Not too bad for our first official day of our holiday? A full day to enjoy the amenities, soak up the views, and eat and drink only the best  Upon our arrival at our destination airport, we will be whisked away for the one and a half trip to our final destination, where we will get an early check in and go to our room.  I already know that there will be cold wine and beer waiting for us.  Who cares about anything at that point except eating, drinking and sunshine?!

Like I mentioned in yesterday’s blog, Kevin and I try to plan some tropical getaway before the ski season starts. But to keep things fresh, we try to check out something new. Over the years, we’ve learned that we like “Adults-Only” all inclusive resorts (kids are great, but it makes for a nice escape). We try to find resorts that include scuba diving, but that usually comes with significant additional fees. It is wonderful when it works out, but at the very least we love to swim in the ocean and go snorkelling. So it’s a big change for us that the resort we are staying at this time is not on the beach.  It is higher up in the hills, with (apparently) easy access to three other properties owned by the same company that ARE on the beach. Makes it a bit cheaper for us, and it also means we get full access to everything at those locations except a room.

Our plan?  Rise early, catch the shuttle to the beachfront locations, change immediately into bathing suits, and head to one of the beaches that has two shaded chaise lounges, find some food, find something to drink and assume the position (which for us is lying prone on a chaise lounge!). Perhaps we will end up spending more time at our location (poolside can sometimes be comparably nice to beachfront!). Next - snooze, read, snooze, sip and snooze some more until dinner.  After dinner?  Some even more adventurous exploring and if we are up for it, take in a show. Sounds sublime, dontcha think?

Nothing ever goes perfectly to plan though, so here is a list of possible pitfalls upon our arrival:

  1. We have received no confirmation for our transport from the airport to the destination so that might be interesting at the airport when we arrive. Who knows, maybe it will come through while we are on the flight!

  2. We are not assured, at this point, that our room will be ready when we get there. Early check-in is so rarely ever guaranteed, so we are prepared to change in a washroom if need be and have our luggage stored until the room IS ready.

  3. What if we cannot find loungers in the shade??? Bummer! What a tragic problem to have.

  4. We may be way too excited for the read/nap/snooze routine - then what? This is an easy one ;)

  5. What if it is raining?  Kevin has reminded me oh too many times about the predictions of upcoming thunderstorms during our stay. Oh well, it will still be warm.  Warm rain is way better than our pacific northwest rain!

  6. What if we fall asleep and sleep through our reservation at that VERY FANCY restaurant we booked in for the first night of our stay?  Oh well - we can always find food!!

So looking at the list, there really are no problems that we can’t just roll with.
