We Baked and Decorated Christmas Cookies Together!

So if you’ve been following our social media (@cindysedd on instagram and tiktok!), you already got a preview to the fun (disaster) we had with our Christmas baking this year! Inspired by a recipe from a beloved cookbook of ours Christmas Cookies: Bite-Sized Holiday Lessons written by Amy Kraus Rosenthal (don’t worry, we’ve got a blog post all about festive books coming later this month!), Kevin and I set out on the adventure to bake and decorate some festive cookies! This is a HUGE departure from our comfort zone as neither one of us are bakers, let alone decorators!

I prepared the cookie dough ahead of time, replacing the ¾ cup of softened butter to a plant-based butter, switching the 2 and a half cups of all purpose flour to a gluten free option, and substituting the eggs for eggs whites.  Maybe in hindsight I made a few too many deviations… Oh well! I left it in the fridge until we were ready to decorate!

As for the task itself?  Talk about the blind leading the blind!!!  Thank goodness the recipe was easy, because that was the only easy part of this adventure! We didn’t know how in over our heads we were!

So it was time to make a game plan. I had made vanilla and peppermint icing in white, red, and green. Not too shabby, eh? I also brought out the (dusty) box of decorations filled with sprinkles and icing tips. But it is pretty daunting having all of these things out on the counter with a pile of cookies that needed decorating. How people do this professionally, I will never know. But I can now appreciate the art so much more now that I’ve given it a go!

To begin with, Kevin and I were collaborating, sharing ideas, discussing plans. But once he started showing off his skills, the competition was on! He said he had never done this before, but his first cookie looked professionally done! Okay. Back up a bit. That is an exaggeration. None of them looked too good. But at least his started off looking vaguely symmetrical. Throughout the decorating, it became clear that that was just a fluke! He was just as useless as I was at this! But wowee we had a good laugh about it!

Want to win a signed copy of my book, Six Minute Sex??!

Head on over to my instagram and tiktok (@cindysedd) and take a look at the pictures! How to win? Guess if you can figure out who did which cookies! Comment your guesses for your entry! The closest guess (or drawn from the closest if there is a tie) will be sent a free SIGNED copy of my book, “Six Minute Sex: Maining passion and Nurturing Intimacy in Long Term Relationships”! More details will be on my instagram page.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun, and we may even do it again next year!
