Nothing like a Fire and Hot Tub to Keep Us Warm!

Okay, state the obvious: We have a fireplace. And we have a Hot Tub. Also a spectacular view of the ocean, but in attempts to be humble, I know what you’re all thinking…

…“Damn, I wish I was friends with Cindy and Kevin!”

And you’d be right!! All good and fun jokes aside, it means the world to us that you take a bit of time out of your day to read our little blog, check out our little instagram and tiktok (@cindysedd), and read my little book (https://www.sizzlenotfizzle.ca/sixminutesex), and listen to our little podcast (new episodes launching in the new year!). It truly means the world to both of us that anyone would tune into what we are doing, and we are so grateful for your support.

But getting back into the date (I mean, the blog is literally called “Rate My Date”, I’m presuming you’re here to read about our date ideas), it’s important to take advantage of what you have available to you. My daughter tells me about how her peers who live in shoebox-sized apartments always go out of the house for their dates. And that makes perfect sense! For example, if I wasn’t such a good cook, I would imagine we would go out for dinner a whole lot more often! But I love to cook, I love my home, and Kevin and I love to seek out date ideas that allow us to appreciate this house we made into a home over the past nearly 25 years. Can you believe it? We’ve lived in the same home for almost 25 years?!

Anyways, I struggle with being cold constantly. Kevin not so much, but we love to enjoy a hot soak together in the tub. Perhaps you and your partner also have this same love, but use a bathtub instead! For this evening, we had grand plans of going out for a hot tub just in time for the sunset on this particularly gloomy dark December day. But the Pacific Northwest had other plans. Turns out you need a bit of sunlight to poke through to actually get to enjoy the sunset! Who knew!?

That didn’t stop us from enjoying a drink outside together, soaking in the warm water until our toes were no longer cold and sore, and race back into the house as fast as we could before we had the chance to get cold again. We had even more grand plans to have a fire outside; I had recently got new outdoor furniture covers for our couches, but the soggy rain proved to be too gross for us to tolerate, even with a fire.

So instead, we poured another drink (in real glasses this time, not the pool-safe ones), embraced the warmth fireplace, and set ourselves on our beloved couch (the kind that has wrinkles and groans when we sit on it because we’ve loved it so long) and watch the sky fade from grey into night.  And to talk.  And we called it a date because, if you recall, the way two people interact with each other is different if you call it a date.  It is more intimate and loving, softer and more gentle - just so special.  And as we watched nighttime settle in, we could see across the water the Christmas lights on many homes come blinking and twinkling on.

Now, this date is certainly not a Christmas-Advent exclusive. When we are home in the winter, we find ourselves doing variations of this throughout the season. It wasn’t an intensive, or difficult date to plan. Quality time doesn’t need to be difficult or intricate or predetermined. It just needs to be intentional between you and your favourite human.
