A Sudden Change to our Date Plans – Managing Stormy Weather!
So, Kevin and I carry on our epic adventure - our road trip to my sister’s wedding in South Carolina. It’s been such a fabulous journey, so far, full of new adventures, meeting, new friends, and having the opportunity to see a part of the continent that neither of us have ever visited. And today whilst writing this, the blog is coming to you from the beautiful state of South Carolina, starting this morning in Georgetown. We stayed at a campsite on the outskirts of Georgetown in preparation for planned date today in Charleston, just over an hour away. Our plan included an overnight tonight at a Harvest Host (I’ve written more about that in previous posts if you wanted to learn more) just outside of Charleston, and then off to see my sister tomorrow.
Charleston, we are told, is a fantastic city with many things to experience, including a rich, historical background, and a sense of fun in the old downtown city core! We were REALLY looking forward to it, but, for the first time during this trip, the weather interfered.
The rain fell hard last night and this morning, and the forecast was not looking any better in Charleston. As well, we didn’t get a confirmation on our requested Harvest Host stay (which could be as simple as the request went in too late or they may be closed on Sundays. I need to look more closely at the details next time). So, instead, we thought we might just shorten our day in Charleston, just live through the weather whatever it was, and then drive to see my sister a day early.
I contacted her and asked if we could show up this evening as our plans were not really working out, and guess what she said! In typical, southern hospitality style, She said, “come on over to our place today for brunch. we’ll sit on the deck and eat great food and drink mimosas. The weather here is beautiful! You can make a day trip of Charleston from here when the weather is better. Don’t go in the rain”
So we said, “Awesome! Great idea!”
My sister had a house built for her right on a lake in South Carolina. We’ve never been there, but we know that she has impeccable taste, and we are looking forward to our afternoon with her and her soon to be husband. And unlike yesterday, when I sent our beautiful dog Lovely into the murky waters of the inner coastal waterway (which allegedly house alligators), the lake poses no such threats to either us or Lovely. So we switched our plans and our Google map route, and in about an hour and a half we expect to be sitting on the deck in Chapin, South Carolina with a Mamosa, celebrating with family, the upcoming nuptials.
A Last-minute change in plans could be seen as the chance for a surprise adventure. Yes, as I said we really were looking forward to our day in Charleston. We even planned a special dinner out. But instead, we’re going to Chapin. And we are excited!
So, our recommendation when things feel like they are falling apart?
Relax.
Exhale.
Look around to see if a new plan is presenting itself.
Go with the flow.
When one thing isn’t really working out, something else will! It’s all about lemons and lemonade really, don’t you think?
